Tennis mother, I am….
It is 11:30 pm Friday night and I have officially become a tennis mom. I just returned home from my daughter’s first tennis tournament — first round started at 8 pm, a 10 game proset, she won in a heartwrenching 10-8 victory. Then we drove home from Armonk. I just tucked her in. What did I learn? Here we go: 1. Tennis parents are crazy. These are 7 and 8 year old girls and we were behaving badly, the girls were fine. One mother yelled at the Tournament Director about a bad call. One dad was called out for coaching his daughter during a changeover (this is not allowed). I was absolutely miserable and could barely watch the points - my heart raced, sweat was building, dry mouth and no appetite. Really, seriously, what is wrong with me? 2. Little girls just want to have fun — watching my daughter race back and forth, run to pick up a ball, bound to the opposite side at changeovers was a true delight — who cares if she wins or loses (well, I did and I feel bad about that). 3. Finally, hats off to The Buppa who showed up with husband and three sons to route on my little girl — she was almost as nervous as I was. Thank you Buppa — that meant alot to Carolyn and to me. Tomorrow, we go back for round 2 — does anyone want to watch…..
