The (light) Hug
Do you hug, handshake or cheek kiss ? Being stuck in too many awkward situations, I have opted for the friendly light hug as my default. Shaking hands seems so 90s, kisses seem so 2000…the light hug is in.

Relaunch of BlueSkyMediaNYC.com
Just like all major media companies :-), Blue Sky Media NYC has gone through a rebranding process. Instead of BSMnyc.com, we are now branded as BlueSkyMediaNYC.com and the site has been refreshed, renewed, revived and, finally, relaunched. Please let me know what you think!
Simplifyn
I have simplified my life. I returned from the summer rejuvenated and fired up — ready to kill it with Blue Sky Media NYC. I am at full capacity now with six (yes, six !!!) clients. So, simplify and focus is the mantra. I implemented the change immediately. For those that see me daily, you will certainly notice the change (or lack thereof). For those that see me monthly or...

Tennis mother, I am....
It is 11:30 pm Friday night and I have officially become a tennis mom. I just returned home from my daughter’s first tennis tournament — first round started at 8 pm, a 10 game proset, she won in a heartwrenching 10-8 victory. Then we drove home from Armonk. I just tucked her in. What did I learn? Here we go: 1. Tennis parents are crazy. These are 7 and 8 year old girls...

"Like" me
Do you have any expectation of privacy? I have asked several folks this question today. The answer, no. Almost everyone I know (except my husband) is on Facebook. We share, comment, embed and search. We “check-in”. We look around for friends. We see old boyfriend’s family pictures (come on, you know you do it too). We love it and we thrive on it. Whatever we do, we want...

The Likeness
I just finished The Likeness by Tana French. What a great read - a smart, twisted murder mystery. I would say it is several levels above my “normal read” in terms of literature — if you remember, I read 12 Vince Flynn novels in the Summer of 2009 (when is that thirteenth book coming?). I have made a concerted effort to read more sophisticated books — e.g. Sarah’s Key...

Blue Sky Media NYC - BSMnyc.com
Today, I announced the launch of my new venture — Blue Sky Media NYC, a media advisory boutique (BSMnyc.com). This is the text — please send me your thoughts (and referals).
“As some of you know, I will be leaving MLB Advanced Media on February 26th. After more than 16 years working for professional sports leagues (12 years at NHL and 4 at MLBAM), I have decided to start a...
Eileen Breier
What a woman. Eileen Breier passed away on Saturday after a 3 month illness. I spoke with Eileen last week and she was optimistic, enthusiastic and ready to get on with her life and hold her daughter’s first born - Jake, born last week. She was my mother’s dear friend and she stepped in to fill a void in my life. She promised my mother that she would always be there for me. And she...

Sarah's Key
I am haunted by the story in the book I just finished, Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. The story of a small girl woken up in the middle of the night in occupied Paris in July 1942 - the French (not German) police took her family away. Her story is intertwined with that of a 45 year old American/French journalist who is writing a story of the 60th anniversary of this fateful night in...
Another Anniversary
I had an “Anniversary” post last year on January 6th. Today, as all January 6ths, I feel nostalgic and removed. My mother’s memory is a shadow that is always with me. Why is my feeling this day different? Perhaps it is the jarring reality of losing a mother, a best friend, too soon, and three days before my first child was born. My 9 year old son woke me this morning by...

Social Media - what's next
As you can see, I haven’t posted in awhile. Is anyone else getting a little bored with social media - facebook, twitter… Connect with your friends from junior high and camp…it’s all good, but then what else — I am definitely not buying manure on Farmville (although about 35 million people are). A few quick twitterlike-updates: ran right into Kramer (yes that one)...

Two Finds - Thank me later
This post falls into the category of “I have experienced something great and I want to share it with my friends”. My summer has been transformed by — not tweeting, blogging or surfing (the web that is), but reading. So 1980, yes, but if you want to surge each day, look forward to spare waking moments, be transported to another world, then thank me later — after you have...

Extravaganzas
Two big events in the past 48 hours — 1. LG photography is now rebranded as Blue Sky Photography and 2. I went to a wedding extravaganza over the weekend. The first big event doesn’t merit much discussion — just thought that Blue Sky Photography sounded more descriptive, colorful and fluid, much like the photos; but the second event raised a couple of observations…the...

Dante and Dreamin'
Dante has pulled me back (see Anniversary post below) but this time, it is not as dark. It has been eight and a half years but it was so vivid. I could touch her and smell her. She was so real. My mother. She was there and we were holding hands and talking, just like we always did. Things were a little different as she was playing with my kids, making them laugh, as her infectious smile lit...
The Egg Hunt and Squirrels
Today, we were invited on an Easter Egg hunt in Riverside Park. The plastic eggs (all 120 of them) were filled with chocolates, candy and prizes. They were gingerly placed in crevices of trees, branches and nooks. The sun was shining and it was a crisp 50 degrees. Then…the squirrels starting coming…from every direction, up from the branches, across from the sides of the...
Status Updates - The Need to do it.
I have been thinking alot lately about our need/desire to post status updates (via Facebook, Twitter, etc.). I was walking home from work yesterday — 4 miles along the Hudson River/Riverside Park and was in awe of the day (60’s, sunny), the energy (bikers, walker, lots of smiles) and attitude (“loving NYC kind of day”). So my first reaction was to post this via Twitter...
Starbucks Special
This is a day of New York moments. At Starbucks this afternoon, the man in front of me ordered a tall coffee for $1.50. He asked for 2 extra cups which the Barrista politely gave him and then he reached over and took 2 more from the stack (which then annoyed the Barrista). He took his tall coffee and 4 empty cups and went over to the milk stand. He filled up all 4 cups to the rim with milk,...
Subway Greetings
On my way into the subway station at 53rd and Madison today, I walked past a homeless man, who looked right into my eyes and said “Boy, I wish I was going in that direction.” Sad to say, but it actually made me smile and gave me a little skip in my step…
Sensitivity
Yesterday I was at Doctor’s office and observed a conversation that disturbed me. A 30ish woman, super stylish and attractive, just had baby a few weeks prior and she was clearly back in her fighting weight, which may be around 110 pounds. The receptionist, a 40ish chubby lady with a lovely smile, commented that Stylee is in such great shape after just having a baby and asked her how she...

Facebook "meet-ups"
We all have reconnected with “friends” from camp, high school, etc and we love it. That is why we keep going back, looking for more “friends” and getting a quick snipet into their lives. I say “quick” for a reason. I, personally, have loved catching up with so many from my past. I love that I am up to speed on their lives, it gives me energy and reminiscing...
Angry Man
I just watched an angry man, a father (there were two kids in tow) and husband (wife by his side). He yelled at his young daughter, he snapped at his wife and then, red faced, he argued with the flight attendant about over-the-head luggage space. The wife had sad eyes. Her seat is 10 rows behind his, she asked for his help in placing her bag overhead, and he responded “come on, i...
Warmth in the recession
I need some warmth during this recession. No, not that kind….heat, Florida, 85 degrees, the Carribean sea…that is what I crave. Tomorrow, we go to Florida to see the family and then off to really feel the heat. Any guesses on where we are going? I will post some photos from this destination. My goal is to come back with at least 6-10 photos that are LG Photography-worthy. You,...
Columbia Speech today
Thanks for the feedback and help on topics for my speech to Columbia students later today. I have kept the topic light and fun — with the help of a few antedotes from my husband. Three parts — Columbia is a family affair; my days as a student/athlete (i.e. tennis player) and how we fought for equality on and off the court; and how Colulmbia has influenced every aspect of my...

Columbia Women
For those that don’t know…..suspense….I am a Columbia Woman. As a Columbia grad from the ahem-late 1980’s, I have been asked to give a speech to current students as part of Women’s History month. The topic — what is was like to be a part of one of the first class of women at Columbia and how that prepared me for life. I have a few things up my sleeve but I...
Chickfest
Not what most Tumblrs or Twitterers are thinking…I just had the over 40 idea of a chickfest weekend…pure bliss…36 hours outside of the city with my best, best, best friends from college. We crave our annual weekend retreat where we indulge in pure narcisism - yoga, massage, magazines (and really trashy ones), and plenty of vino (sorry Tumblrs, not Phelps’ guilty...

Friggin' Unplug!
Yes, I love technology and I love the gadgets even more (Best Buy has ALWAYS been my favorite store)…but what the heck (using polite words now)…my G5 hard drive blew as I tried to download 4,000 of my favorite photos from an external hardrive (yes, I needed them synced to my Living Room AppleTV). What do i do? This computer IS my life….can I carry it to Tekserve (negative), can...
The Gym - So bored !
Does anyone have ideas for what I can do while on the treadmill? I am so darn bored but love the “after-run” empowerment. This empowerment keeps me going, but what to do without being plugged in? Watching TV/video makes me want to puke (a quote from my daughter, so forgive me please). My ipod is broken - not physically, but my playlists no longer inspire (any suggestions on...
Happy Birthday To Me
Happy Birthday to me, from Facebook. My day started with happy birthday messages from friends and colleagues from across the globe. The barrage of good wishes continued from high school friends in Miami…then camp chimney rock bunkmates…then college, long lost friends (and one who gave me a foot massage freshman year on 7 carmen, which we then IM’d about…ah memories…)...
Anniversary
Anniversary - Not the kind you are thinking of - today is the 8th year anniversary of my mother’s death. I have never written about it, but hey, I now have a blog and about 5 readers, so bear with me as I take you to my dante’s inferno (or take a look at one of my photos if you don’t like dark places). I really didn’t have time to mourn the loss (although I had 2 years to...
Two Weeks off
Two Weeks off — I can’t remember the last time I had 2 consecutive weeks off. I can’t really count maternity leave as this is not “off-time” — only on, on, on and burnt out. How I craved a nap… So these past two weeks have been … ok, everyone expects me to say “amazing” “incredible” etc…yes they were those things, but...
